Forest sector benefits most from safeguarding the biodiversity

Sufficient protection of forest biodiversity and multiple use of forests as a part of sustainable forestry is beneficial for the forest sector. It is the forest sector who benefits most from the safeguarding of biodiversity and it is not a necessity in the same sense for any other stakeholder in the society. Safeguarding forest biodiversity represents also the values of the people in Finland.

The level of protection and the new commitments of the forest sector about how to reach and maintain the sufficient safeguarding of biodiversity also in Southern Finland - where there are lacks in biodiversity also according to forest sector - show that the forest sector is carrying its responsibility for the nation. On the other hand, carrying responsibility in nature protection gives right to sustainable use of forests.

Sustainability of forestry requires also care for the economic and social elements of sustainability. If the forests are protected more than the safeguarding of biodiversity presupposes, both the livelihood of the people and due to that also the respect of responsible nature protection is endangered. This is not a benefit for forest sector neither for nature protection.

This is why ecologically sufficient nature production must be enough.
